SCHS is a 90-100 employee, full-service, non-profit healthcare clinic serving the needs of the South Minneapolis community. ROLE: This position exists to ensure efficient patient flow and excellent customer service. Provide dental and vision patients with information regarding appointments and services and ensure prompt collection of fees at the time of service.

JOB DUTIES:

•Answer the telephone during clinic hours, provide information, and/or take messages as appropriate.

•Schedule and confirm appointments; assure patient flow is moving at the required pace. Able to identify patient needs to ensure appropriate scheduling of appointments.

•Schedule clinic visits by the procedure according to the established schedule for each provider. Accurately register each patient in the EMR for the clinic visit, using a thorough interview technique. Assure all patient demographic and insurance information is current and complete for billing. Obtain patient consent for treatment. Ensure all compliance requirements are met. Assist patient with EMR when applicable. Obtain patient signature on any ABN’s by SCHS’s prior authorization dept.

•Maintain full understanding and follow SCHS and applicable HIPAA regulations. Maintain constant awareness of patient confidentiality in all scenarios. Uphold and conform to all regulations without exception.

•Complete assigned daily duties in a timely manner.

•At least 24 hours prior to patient appointment, ensure the pre-visit process is followed.

•Greet patients and update registration information at the time of visit; assist new patients when necessary in completing registration forms.

•Perform cash collections at the time of service, consistent with financial counseling procedures, SCHS’s credit and collection policy, and any other financial directives. Utilize software for payment and receipt. Handle money competently and securely.

•Assist patients with billing questions to the best of your knowledge and direct any additional questions to the billing department.

•Assign established charges to provider activities; total account balances and collect payments for services rendered at time of visit. (applicable at dental clinic)

•Verify insurance information prior to the visit and upon registration/check-in; identify opportunities when a patient may benefit from meeting with enabling services (Patient Advocate); dental clinic PCR’s must also assure charge sheet information is complete before turning over to the billing clerk.

•Serve and participate as requested in staff meetings, continuous quality improvement, and other process development opportunities within the organization.

•Ensure that the front office area is kept clean and orderly.

•Assist with any interpreting, if needed.

•Assist with other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

•Training as a receptionist and experience in scheduling clinical appointments.

•Epic software experience preferred.

•High school or equivalent (Required)

•Good computer skills.

•Bilingual is a plus.
