Apprenticeship Program
What is an apprenticeship?
Apprenticeship is a training model that pays you a livable wage while you work full-time and learn skills on the job. You will also receive classroom education to help you gain all of the necessary knowledge.
How does the MNACHC Apprenticeship Program work?
During the 12-month program, an apprentice is a full-time employee at one of Minnesota’s 17 Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs). While working at the FQHC, apprentices are trained in all on-the-job skills required to become a Medical Assistant (MA) or Dental Assistant (DA). At the same time, the apprentice completes a required online curriculum.
At the end of the 12 months, MA apprentices are eligible to take the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) exam. If passed, the apprentice becomes a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA). DA apprentices are not eligible for any certification and will be considered Unlicensed Dental Assistants.
The cost of the program varies depending on how many students are participating. Additionally, we work to secure grants and other funding to make the program as affordable as possible.
MNACHC administers one cohort per year starting in January. Recruitment for the 2024 cohort is CLOSED.
Are you interested in becoming a Medical or Dental Assistant but don’t know where to start? MNACHC currently offers apprenticeship programs that allow you to become an MA or DA with no prior experience or knowledge. Keep reading to learn more.
