Commonwealth Fund Compares Women’s Health Care In US to Other Countries

MNACHC CEO Report - The Commonwealth Fund released a study that shows (again!) that the US has the highest rate of maternal deaths of any high-income nation and that racial disparities are also extreme.

Black women in the US are nearly three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related complications than white women are.

Other findings from the report find that women in the US, when compared to other women in high-income countries:

  • have the lowest life expectancy of 80 years

  • are more likely to take multiple prescriptions (27% overall, 37% for Black women in the US)

  • have a considerable percentage of the population that is uninsured (14% overall, 26% for Hispanic women)

  • have the highest rate of avoidable deaths (270/100,000)
