Bilingual Domestic Violence Advocate

We are on the search for a full-time Bilingual Domestic Violence Advocate to join our Crookston, MN team. In a Bilingual Domestic Violence Advocate role at CHSI, you would provide services to victims of domestic or sexual violence. These services may include:

  • Assisting the client with advocacy, support, and information.
  • Responding to crisis situations and arranging emergency services, e.g., safe housing, transportation, medical accompaniment, and translation.
  • Contacting agencies for the victim and accompanying a client to appointments, if needed.
  • Assisting victims with Orders of Protection or Harassment Orders and attending court hearings.
  • Providing necessary referrals for victims, e.g., attorneys, mental health, law enforcement, etc.
  • Assisting with speaking engagements and networking with other agencies and individuals to promote CHSI programs.
  • Attending workshops and staff meetings.
  • Coordinating general office duties and managing general supplies for the site.

ARE YOU A GOOD FIT?

In addition to being a wonderful team member and advocate clients, we are seeking an individual with the below qualifications:

PHYSICAL ABILITIES

  • Ability to bend and crouch occasionally, sit continuously, and stand or walk frequently.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to use hands/arms, feet/legs for repetitive fine to large motor skill movements.

EDUCATION & SKILLS

  • High school graduate or G.E.D. equivalent preferred. College or technical training is ideal.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in Spanish and English, both verbally and in writing.
  • A valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and auto insurance.
  • Ability to work independently, but also collaborate with a team.
  • Willing to work flexible hours and travel when the need arises.
  • Sensitivity to and knowledge of issues facing victims of sexual and domestic violence.
  • Experience working with a wide range of ethnic, cultural, and economic backgrounds.
  • Knowledge and experience in general office procedures such as filing, computer skills, and strong verbal and written skills is preferred.
  • Knowledge of community and area resources is a plus.
