Advanced Dental Therapist

Responsible for patient management and the practice of dental therapy in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Minnesota Board of Dentistry for a Dental Therapist or Advanced Dental Therapist. This position requires one to work cooperatively and collaboratively with other job families to provide an excellent patient experience

Essential Functions

  • Provides the following types of dental care in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Board of Dentistry
  • Restorative
  • Periodontics
  • Oral Surgery
  • Pedodontics
  • Emergency care
  • Patient education
  • Recommends specialty referrals when necessary
  • Consistently practices and ensures the use of universal precautions, hazardous and infectious waste precautions/handling, and right-to-know
  • Assists in development and monitoring of performance improvement activities
  • Participates in review and update of clinic principles of practice
  • Attends and participates in all staff meetings
  • Participates in peer review and quality of care chart audits
  • Provides input to the Dental Director and Dental Office Manager concerning the performance evaluations of dental staff

Supervisory Responsibilities
This position does not supervise other staff, but may provide work direction as needed to volunteers, students, and new employees. The therapist will also provide direction to their dental assistant.

Work Environment
Primary environment is that of a general dental practice, administrative office, or clinical office. This role requires regular walking. This role may encounter patients who may have contagious illnesses.

Physical Demands
This position is active and requires standing, walking, and bending. The employee may be asked to help transfer a patient in and out of a dental chair.

Required Education and Experience

  • Must be a licensed dental therapist in the state of Minnesota
  • Must be able to perform all duties in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Minnesota Board of Dentistry
  • Maintenance of continuing education, especially pertaining to general and public health dentistry
  • CPR certification
  • Proof of COVID Vaccination Required, Religious and Medical exemption will be considered

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Experience preferred in the practice of general and public health dentistry
  • Public health interest/experience preferred
  • Dual licensure in dental hygiene and dental therapy preferred

Additional Eligibility Requirements

  • Demonstrated success in working effectively with target population(s).
  • Change Agile; ability to operate in the gray and flex to new developments or situations.
  • Experience working in a multi-site environment is highly desired.
